Shervin Pishevar is an Iranian-American businessman. As an angel investor, he has contributed funds to many startup companies, and as a venture capitalist, he has a stake in several successful companies.
Pishevar graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of California in Berkeley. In 1997 Pishevar founded WebOS, an early concept of cross-browser web-based browsing platforms. Four years later, he became a co-founder of Seges Capital. At Seges Capital, Pishevar was responsible for 17 different investments.
The same year helped create Ionside Interactive. He held many positions at this company, including president and director. He also dealt with product development and marketing. Pishevar became president of Webs Inc. in 2005. During this time he helped raise $12 million of funds for the company. In 2008 he left Webs Inc. and co-founded the Social Gaming Network. In 2010 Pishevar became the General Manager for Mozilla.
Shervin Pishevar became a managing director for the venture capital fund Menlo Ventures in 2011. In this position, Pishevar dealt with social media and the internet. He directed investments with Uber, Tumblr, Machine Zone, and several others. In 2014 Pishevar began working on the development of a Hyperloop. As an angel investor, Pishevanr has provided funding for over 60 different startup companies, many of which went on to be successful.
Pishevar is an active philanthropist. He is involved with Charity: Water, a non-profit that works in developing nations like Ethiopia and Nepal, to provide clean drinking water. He has also advocated for the Startup Visa Act, a work visa for entrepreneurs
Shervin Pishevar has been recognized for his hard work and charity. In 2012 he received the Outstanding American by Choice award from the Government of the United States. He also received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2016.
